Mid-Air Thief – Crumbling

South Korean folktronica artist Mid-Air Thief holds a special place in my music collection ever since my good friend Reversed Fireworks introduced me to the project. Having no previous knowledge of the artist I was surprised and very happy to get to know that he won the Korean Music Award for ‘Best Dance and Electronic Album’. There is hope for out of the box music after all.

‘Crumbling’ starts with the track “Why?” which could not be a better introduction to this album. Mid-Air Thief’s sense for detail & tension and release is unique in its own way. Unpredictable shifts and changes in his compositions make these songs unskippable and outstanding. The tracks feel lighthearted and nostalgic in the right places. You are thrown into thoughtful headspaces that are getting resolved in big uplifting sections , putting a big smile on your face while you are powering through dreamlike states.

Lofi textures, powerful synths and nostalgic memories are defining this brilliant album. Favorite tracks: ‘These Chains’ & ‘Why?’. Perfect for open minded listeners that are in awe with up close personal electronica ala Bibio & Jviews.
